TRAFFIC SAFETY
As valued members of our Spangler community, we kindly ask all parents and caregivers to practice extra caution and drive slowly around our school grounds. By working together, we can ensure a safe and welcoming neighborhood for all children and families walking to school. Our Milpitas Police Officers shared these safety tips (en español) to follow as you head to and from school in the morning and afternoon:

Drive slowly and within the speed limit -- 25 mph

Always stop and yield to pedestrians and students in crosswalks.

Strictly adhere to school zone speed limits and designated drop-off/pick-up procedures.

Follow instructions provided by our school crossing guards.

Stay fully attentive to the road and eliminate all driving distractions.

EARLY DROP-OFF & LATE PICK-UP
Sign-In & Sign-Out Requirements
- Early Drop-Off (Before 8:00 AM): Parents/guardians must walk students into the front office and physically sign them in.
- Late Pick-Up (After School Dismissal): Students will no longer be permitted to walk to the parking lot unattended if their ride is late. An adult must enter the front office to sign them out.
- TK / Kindergarten: Release at 2:06 PM on regular days and 12:16 PM on Wednesdays and minimum days.
- 1st - 6th Grade: Release at 2:46 PM on regular days and 1:21 PM on Wednesdays and minimum days.
Exceptions
Students are exempt from these sign-in / sign-out rules on days they are actively participating in official after-school programs, such as a club or leadership events.
Office Hours & Compliance
- Standard Office Hours: 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Please note that there is no guarantee there will be someone in the front office in the mornings to supervise your children before 8:00 AM.
- Attendance Monitoring: To ensure student safety, families who excessively drop off early or pick up late will receive a formal notification letter by mail.

SAFETY PATROL
Open to 4th-6th grade students who want to serve the Spangler community. Every day before and after school safety patrol members help students be safe while entering or exiting cars. They help the students by opening doors, signaling drivers to pull forward, and gathering younger students’ belongings. We need students every morning before school and right after school at both the Front and Back drop off locations. Safety Patrol members are assigned days and times to help and wear vests to show the community they are ready to serve. There will be monthly meetings to keep the positions filled and surprises for those who are at their assigned posts regularly. For the ODS assembly, Mrs. Johal and Mrs. Ortega will check that they have attended their time slots and add that time to their ODS service logs!
