Volunteering

WANT TO BE A VOLUNTEER?

We need volunteers all year long! Volunteers may support in the classroom, at PTA Events, or as field trip chaperones.

There are three different types of Volunteers:

  • Type 1. Parent Club or Special Event Volunteers
    • These volunteers assist with snack bars, chaperone dances, setting up for special activities, and other limited events or special occasions. They work with other volunteers, are supervised by Certificated staff, and do not have direct responsibility for supervising students.
  • Type 2. Supervised Volunteers – Those unlikely to be alone with students.
    • These volunteers assist in administrative or academic areas on a regular or frequent basis, such as a three-day-per-week library volunteer, daily assisting with a class, or a two-day-per-week office assistant (Classroom, Library, or Office Volunteers).
  • Type 3. Unsupervised Volunteers – Those likely to be alone with students.
    • These volunteers assist in administrative or academic areas on a regular or frequent basis and include anyone driving students or working alone with students. They might also supervise a group of students without the presence of a teacher.
      • Fingerprint Clearance: Volunteers are responsible for processing fees.  FBI and DOJ forms must be obtained from the school site where you will volunteer before making a fingerprinting appointment with a Live Scan facility. Click here to view facilities that offer live scan services.
      • Fingerprint Exception: The following individuals must verify employment or certification to be exempt from fingerprinting: MUSD employees, police, firefighters, physicians, licensed counselors, and psychologists.

All volunteers must provide a copy of a valid Tuberculosis (TB) test (the shows a negative result and the date) conducted within the last four years and a valid driver’s license or identification.  Assembly Bill 506 from 2024 requires fingerprinting of “regular volunteers,” which is defined as someone who volunteers more than 16 hours in a month or 32 hours in a year.   Volunteers must be approved by the District Office before participating in any volunteer work. No volunteer may provide services until the information form is completed and approved by HR, and the school site has been notified of approval.
