EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Student Expectations for Extracurricular
For all extra-curricular activities, students are expected to follow the Golden Spartan Expectations of Being Safe, Kind, and Responsible during school, club times, and online. Student attendance matters. If your child is absent please have them communicate with the teacher in charge. Please be mindful of when clubs meet! We ask students to be committed to the club for the entirety of its sessions. Please don’t sign up for more than one club on the same day. Safety Patrol is an exception since the schedule is flexible. Each teacher in charge of these activities will review the expectations with you.
Order of Distinguished Service (ODS)
ODS an award earned and presented at an assembly two times a year (Dec. and May). The award is based on points in three criteria areas: Citizenship, Scholarship, and Service. Citizenship and Scholarship are subjectively determined by the classroom teacher. Service points are based on the number of hours the student spends giving their own time to others. 5 hours = 1 point, 10 hours = 2 points, and 15 hours = 3 points. Students can earn service hours by volunteering their time to staff before school, after school, and during recess. They need to have a ‘hall pass’ and a ‘timesheet’ to volunteer. Students can also participate in Student Council, Yearbook, Safety Patrol, and/or Peacemaker for ODS hours. A student needs a minimum total of 7 points (with a minimum of 3 in citizenship) to receive the ODS Award. ODS community service will begin once the informational assembly has occurred. Contact Mrs. Johal at pjohal@musd.org if you have any questions. Hours are due at the end of the semester and will be announced leading up to the due date. Students who receive this honor will be recognized at an assembly, parents will be notified and invited to attend the assembly.

Safety Patrol members are assigned days and times to help and wear vests to show the community they are ready to serve. There will be monthly meetings to keep the positions filled and surprises for those who are at their assigned posts regularly.
